this stop along the Providence River is still worth making to stroll through the village, picnic in the park, shop for antiques, or savor lunch or dinner in a picturesque setting.

This shallow cove north of Pawtuxet has a general depth of just 5 feet. Stillhouse Cove is home to the Rhode Island Yacht Clubâand not much else. The area surrounding the club is residential, with no provisioning or entertainment within an easy walk, although there is a restaurant in the clubhouse.
The Cove is the site of an interesting moment in history. Colonists put the captain of the British ship Gaspee ashore here after they'd wounded him and burned his ship for attempting to enforce what they deemed were unfair trade tariffs. The incident occurred off Gaspee Point to the south of the cove. The name Stillhouse apparently was derived from a whiskey still that once graced the site.
We can see little reason for visiting boats to make a stop here unless a rendezvous with friends is planned.
The section of Cranston known as Edgewood has two facilities for yachts, neither of which is frequented often by transient boats.
Edgewood Yacht Club is a rustic, historic structure standing on pilings on the west shore of the Providence River north of Stillhouse Cove. The aging clubhouse has survived several major bay hurricanes and looks itâthe pilings that support it show signs of rot, and in places the clubhouse deck is in need of repair. Despite this, the docks are clean and pleasant, thanks in large part to the friendly and cheerful dockside staff. The club is one of the most active on the bay and has produced some world-class sailors, among them Cranstonite Henry Childers, who sailed with Dennis Conner aboard Stars & Stripes in the 1987 America's Cup Races in Australia.
Dockage/Provisions/Fuel. If you take a slip at the yacht club, you'll find sodas and ice available at the docks, but you'll have to hike uphill a ways to a Cumberland Farms convenience store to find basic provisions. The area surrounding this club is mostly residential, and unless you've come to Edgewood with a purpose, we'd advise choosing another overnight stop. There is no anchorage in Edgewood.
Just to the north of the yacht club, also on the west side of the river, is Port Edgewood Marina. This primarily powerboat facility does not cater to transients, but it is one of the few places in the Upper Bay where gasoline is available, although the gas dock is sometimes closed on Sundays or holidays when you're most likely to run out. All the marina's slips are occupied by resident boats, but as with other ports in Cranston, there is not much to lure the visitor here anyway.
